Christian film "stuns Hollywood" with $11mn opening. Why am I not shocked? Oh, that's right. It's because I predicted that exactly this kind of thing was going to happen as a sign that the herd is moving from liberal mania and probably, unfortunately to conservative mania (lots of supposedly conservative stuff is in fact hyper liberal when you analyze it). The pendulum swings.
It is a clear sign that the mood of the herd is now turning from complacent and ambivalent to focus and and concerned. There is an old saying: there are no atheists in foxholes. Even the loudest "proud to be an atheist" out there cries "Oh God, save my sorry ass" when the shit hits the fan. And the world is clearly primed for exactly this to begin happening.
What has been no less than outright societal disrespect toward God is going to reverse. I'm not trying to judge this one way or the other. I just think it is going to happen because that is what the herd does when it is scared. It circles the wagons, closes ranks, closes the borders, ejects those that don't look like "us", and returns to the old tried and true societal mechanisms instead of the new and flagrant stuff that will in fact end up getting blamed (rightly or wrongly) for the hard times ahead. I can already hear the future accusations that God is mad at us for accepting homosexuality, etc. into society. It's like a B movie unfolding in slo mo.
But back to the film. It took in triple its production budget in revenue in the first weekend. Hollywood might be a liberal viper's pit but it knows easy money when it sees it. Expect more of same going forward.
