With respect to the viewing audience, content is king. Nobody is "loyal" to the networks like ABC, NBC, CBS. They only put up with the networks because they have had the content. But now we have this new thing called the Internets (sic) and cable TV which is dominated by network content is no longer the only reliable way to receive said content. So at this point the networks need to care more about content because delivery is no longer a big obstacle to competition.
And so I think we will have an important data point to watch in the Trump vs. NBC saga which involved the Miss Universe content. NBC tried to silence Trump (who is a total loudmouth but at least his is not mired in fake political correctness) by attacking the Miss Universe content. Trump has now bought them out of their share and he will have to find another way to deliver it.
I have to believe that this will be over the Internet. There are already a good number of Internet based video content delivery systems but old habits die hard. However, I could see where a lot of men would probably find it worth their while to explore computer delivery of the pageant. Once people's eyes are opened up to new ways, they cannot be re-closed.
ABC might end up regretting trying to play morality police with Trump in more ways than they could ever have imagined.
