With this in mind we are now seeing more and more articles in the news that are attacking the violence in American football. These are now entering the emotional phase and there is nothing like a well presented emotional story to reflect back on the herd what the herd is already feeling. It becomes a self reinforcing cycle which is actually at the heart of the notion of the madness of crowds. In other words, a feedback loop which continues to drive the herd in a particular direction until shark jumping occurs at which time the fad/mania/excessive greed/excessive fear rapidly dissipate.
Today's example of this can be read here. Of course, you don't need to even bother reading the article. All you have to do is look at the emotional picture of the wife and daughter and you get the sense of what is being projected back at the herd which is that the sport of football, especially when played for money (i.e. highly competitive, highly ruthless), is leaving idyllic looking families with brain damaged daddies.
Awwww, can't you feel the tears starting to form?
