As another evidence point to my well documented prediction about an ongoing conservative swing of the big pendulum, liberal arts colleges are now slashing tuition. These price cuts are not happening because schools want to be nice to kids and families. They have already proven that this was not their intention during the big liberal run up. No, this is happening because enrollment in useless liberal degree curriculum is in free fall. Parents in the collapsing middle class are less able to pay for any kind of college and they damned sure don't want to pay for the kid to go have a 4 year party only to end up with no sale-able skills. For many kids, college actually retarded their career growth by putting them in useless school when they could have been out getting real world experience.
These reversals always begin with the marginal players who are eventually hurt the first and the worst but it is coming to all schools. The reason is that most people do not need college. It is just an expensive boondoggle when the kids would be better off learning most of their skills with OJT. Expect apprenticeships to become big again in the next 10-20 years. We do need institutions of higher learning but they should be uncontrolled by government and they should be 10% of current size because 90% of those going to traditional 4 year college are just wasting their time and money at it.
Big education and unionized education are going down, but hard. These are liberal extremes and the herd can no longer afford such extravagances. New student loans are going to collapse in volume as a result. There is a growing awareness that student debt simply is not worth it. It literally enslaves you to the system and the next generation is already showing me a level of independence which suggests that it is going to be a lot less dependent and enamored with the concept of owing/indebtedness than the past generations have been. They will choose freedom instead.
