In today's learning event on totalitarian regimes we can learn from the Taliban because their first official act toward the people, after promising to treat everyone nicely, was to demand that everyone fork over their guns.
It's obvious. If you want to control people you have to remove the tools of resistance and that is all guns ever were to a normal population. When government has all the guns then people will have no freedoms except those ALLOWED by their controllers.
It's. So. Damned. Obvious.
