Lots of rapid change is happening on the US-Cuba front. As Russia consolidated its territory close in with the re-acquisition of Crimea and the likely eventual re-acquisition of Ukraine, Obama is actually doing some good here off the east coast of Florida by re-establishing diplomatic ties with Cuba. Obama has personally met with Raul Castro and most recently the state department has recommended to remove Cuba from its terrorist sponsor list. The move is clearly being fast tracked and I think it is both correct and smart.
What I mean by "correct" is that I think it is a smart, conservative, highly visible political and economic move. I'm not saying he certainly did it for the right reasons. It could just be another way for him to open up borders for more of the world's poor to enter the US in time for the 2016 elections which I think everyone knows is going to be a big challenge for the dems based on the 2014 mid term results.
At the same time, Cuba is not a real threat to the US and it was grossly liberal of all
presidents who supported their isolation to have done so. A
conservative person does not look at a whole society and think "they are
all evil". That is liberal behavior. Liberals believe in punishment
pre-crime, or before any crime has been committed. That is why the Bush
"first strike" doctrine is a liberal piece of filth. It enables elite
politicians to colludes with evil money powers and use the doctrine to
attack an innocent party in the name of the American people for crimes
that someone MIGHT commit. Unfortunately, when you give this power to
someone, they will assume that not following their political agenda is
in fact a crime of the highest order and thus worthy of attack. So true conservatives should applaud this move as well.
Additionally, it should open up an avenue of trade which should be welcomed by the flagging US economy. Their most wealthy state organizations will pay up for American tech and their poorest laborers will export their cheap goods to the US. One is good for American corporations, the other is good for US consumers. So, again, I applaud the opening of these diplomatic relationships and I hope we end up with completely normalized relations with Cuba. I would like to yacht over there as soon as the way is clear and it becomes easy from a legal perspective.
Having said all that, I will leave you with a quote from the article for those who have the eyes to see: "Removing Cuba from the list would clear a major obstacle in the effort
to restore diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana, paving
the way for the reopening of embassies that have been shut for 54 years,
and signal momentum in ending America's isolation from the Communist
island nation."
I'm jus' sayin'.
