Texas gov abbott defies Joke Biden's "vax or lose job" edict, but not very strongly

Greg Abbott has just issued an executive order, which he wants to follow up with law, that prohibits any TX based "entity" from compelling anyone to vax.

"No entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19".  So all you have to do is say I don't want the vax because it violates my religious beliefs and then the law in Texas is on your side.

The body of the order is pretty clear but the $1000 penalty per violation (which is outlined in 418.173) for violating is not big.  Abbott specifically took the jail portion of the penalty off the table.  So there is some bark here but little bite.  At the same time, let's say American Airlines fires 1000 people who won't vax and then Biden prints up a new million dollars, gives it to American Airlines who then pays this paltry fine.  At least the act of paying the fine would then be an admission of guilt which opens American up up to civil lawsuits which can be hundreds of millions of dollars or more, especially if it can be proven that the vax or quit order was unconstitutional.

Still, by doing this Greg Abbott clearly opens the door for Huffines and West to use this as an example of how to talk tough without actually being tough.

:

Sec. 418.173. PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN. (a) A state,

local, or interjurisdictional emergency management plan may provide that failure

to comply with the plan or with a rule, order, or ordinance adopted under the plan

is an offense.

(b) The plan may prescribe a punishment for the offense but may not prescribe

a fine that exceeds $1,000 or confinement in jail for a term that exceeds 180 days.
