There are all kinds of people in this world. Most of them are ignorant about some things, if not most things. Most people actually want good things to happen. They want fairness and goodness to prevail as long as they don't know who is paying for it or how the payment occurs. Ignorance is in fact bliss. Unfortunately, in their ignorance and perhaps in their laziness, most people look to government to mandate these things. If they weren't too lazy to just read a good sounding headline and then agree with it ("yeah, it's horrible what Trumpsters did to Smollett...") instead of doing some research and independent thinking then they would know that government intervention in the free markets, which includes setting levels for pay, NEVER work. All they do is distort things and generally produce an outcome that is opposite to the stated goal.
While most people are guilty of trying to be nice but in the wrong/unworkable way, politicians actually understand the truth of things. Why? Because they know history, the good ones at least. The elite know history, period. They study it because they know that there is nothing new under the sun except the history you don't know. Thus, by learning the lessons of history they can present something old to the people as if it were in fact new and exciting. You know, ideas like socialism. They know these ideas won't work in the long run but, in the famous words of their con men old school leader Keynes, "In the end we are all dead". In other words, go ahead and tell lies, con the people and get into power NOW/TODAY because otherwise you might get nothing. And even though the lies will eventually be found to be lies, you might be dead (or retired) by then. So go ahead, lie, cheat, deceive, steal. Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Nothing matters because life is short and everyone wants something for nothing. Forget all the past real sacrifices that made America the nation it once was. Piss it all away so that today's elite can monetize those past sacrifices and then leave shit on a shingle for the next generation.
That is exactly what the elite who call for outsized minimum pay standards are doing. If you don't understand this it means you are ignorant. And if you are ignorant yet don't want to do a little research in order to gain knowledge then you are lazy. IMO if you are ignorant and lazy you should just shut up because your opinion really is just noise. But if you accept the fact that you have been lazy and you want to do something to fix it, watch this youttube video. It will give you more insight into the government mandated minimum wage silliness and from there you can extrapolate that all government interventions are similarly distortive and scammy.
But wait, you say. Maybe that video on car wash workers was a one off. How can I extrapolate anything from a single data point? Well, just do some googling and you will find that it's not a single data point and many of the examples are new. For example, Amazon bought Whole Foods and then began lowering some of the high prices. That sounded great. Everyone wants lower prices. But then, to really show how great things are, Amazon announced it would raise their minimum wage to $15 per hour, thus "proving" to all the naysayers that there is no money in businesses for such moves. Unfortunately, this move had to be paid for somehow and so as part of the same announcement they cut out other compensation mechanisms like stock awards and other incentives thus proving that you can't have your cake and eat it too.
If one is ignorant and lazy, one's opinion may really be just noise, but one's vote counts as much as yours.
ReplyDeleteThat's why the elite doesn't even need to know, and does not know, history, because they learn their trade in the job, election in, election out.
