Texas is leading the fight away from liberalism, of which there is quite a lot of in its major cities like Austin. This article states that "Police
chiefs and sheriffs could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor — which
carries possible jail time — if they fail to honor a jail detainer
request from federal immigration agents. What's more, not honoring a
request would qualify as an official misconduct charge, which adds the
threat of removal from office if a police chief or sheriff is convicted
for not complying." and also that "Local governments could also be fined $25,000 a day by the state if for not complying.".
These stipulations are specifically there because those pockets of liberalism with official powers are well known for doing whatever they want. Liberalism is rule by man (oftentimes in near real time and with a 2 speed legal system) whereas conservatism is rule of law. I've always written that the only way to get rid of the bad behavior is to target individuals and make them pay personally instead of allowing them to use their official capacity as a shield whether that be at the corporate or government level. Whereas there used to be police chiefs and sheriffs who would selectively enforce the law with a liberal lean in order to curry favors from the politicians that would appoint or otherwise support them, these new stipulations will hold those people personally accountable. Thus they will stop doing it. When there were no personal consequence then yes, play the liberal game. But when the new rules put a target on your back then that is the signal to just stop.
And so they will just stop.
