Will anything be different this time?

One inescapable characteristic of the herd is the belief that current trends, however ridiculous and unproductive they might have become, will continue on forever in an exponential fashion.  In short, the herd has a very bad habit of thinking that trees grow to reach the sky.  One of the signs that the trend is about to change is that the herd believes in unison that the trend will continue.  This is what I consider the latest article from Charles Hugh Smith to be.  These people tend to be right about a lot of things before the unwashed masses catch on.  Over time, their views catch the eye of the herd and it catapults them to broad visibility levels.  But inevitably, these leaders forget that they themselves are part of the herd, subject to all of its frailties just like everyone else.  And that includes the fallacious notion that trends continue forever.

Mark my words: a new conservatism is upon us and it will bring fame and success to those who embrace it in our leadership. As the leadership sees this strategy working, they will do more of same and it will grow their power, wealth and fame.  Serious political legacies will be born out of it.  The herd is no longer sleepy sheeple waiting for the slaughter.  As I indicated would be the case many times in these pages, the lions that have been attacking the herd will now get the horns.

The turn out at the midterm polls has confirmed this truth.  So Charles Hugh Smith (why do people use all three names??) is going to be wrong about all of his views stated in his blog post because he, like so many others before him, has gotten so caught up in his own past success that he is blinded to the fact that the pendulum swings.  The mood of the herd is a wave, not a line.  The ultra low current public opinion rating of congress is about to swing upward because those in congress are going to stop screwing the people over for their own gain and they are instead going to begin attacking the corrupt members of the military industrial complex / good old boy system.

Watch and see.  The banks will be audited.  Criminal charges and jail time will be handed down to prominent Wall Street figures.  Ridiculous free for all military spending (like that of the soon to die F35 fighter) will be curtailed.  The official term is "DOOM": Delayed, Over budget, Over engineered, Marginally effective.  Warmongers and warmongering will be sent to the back of the bus.  When everyone was prosperous and times were good because of ever-expanding credit, these sector excesses were ignored.  Not no more, folks.  Not no more. What most people fail to understand is that the herd is in control of its own future.  A few oligarchs can posture and pose like the Wizard of Oz.  They can drive the herd with shock and awe.  But when the herd decides it will stop, the games will fucking stop.  And quickly so.  PERIOD.

If a citizenry has been disarmed, it takes a lot more pain and suffering before the herd decides to to take the extreme efforts needed to dislodge the fully armed oligarchs.   But with a fully armed populace like in the US, the con men running the show know that it cannot really control the American people.  Serious and blatant attempts to do so will be met by "a rifle behind every blade of grass".  Might makes right in the herd and a disarmed populace has none.  But America is far from disarmed.  The American citizen, by and large, is armed to the teeth and the Bundy ranch incident showed that we are not afraid to stand up for ourselves.  That was  a much bigger deal than many give it credit for.  It sent a new message rippling across the herd.  I damn near shouted with joy as the BLM were driven off the premises because I knew what it meant in the bigger picture: the herd was no longer going to just put up with the abuses.  Things were about to change.

And so, things are now changing.  Real changes folks.  Not Obama promises, wimpy promises and outright lies.  The herd will no longer accept those in place of truth and so now we will get, in aggregate, more truth and honesty and a much better shake from our leaders.
